Better FIX for Inspiron N7110 touchpad

Seth Forshee created a kernel patch and now the ALPS touchapd on this laptop and probably others is recognized as a touchpad instead of falling back to a psmouse.

So now you can use the Touchpad tab in the "Mouse and touchpad settings" (gnome) to control the "click to tap", scrolling and other features and you don't have to use the patched syndaemon from my previous post.

To install this fix on ubuntu just download this deb package, install and reboot. ( tested on Ubuntu 11.10 x86_64 ).

If you want to know all the details go through the comments on this bug report #545307

  1. This worked for me on my Dell Precision M4600, which I’ve had for 4 days. The touchpad was driving me so nuts I had turned it off and was using an external mouse until I found your post. Thanks so much! Cheers!

  2. This fix worked for me on Inspiron N7110 for Ubuntu 11.10 x86. Now I can use the Synaptiks to refine the configuration of the touchpad. Thank you so much!

  3. Confirm that this does NOT work with latest N5110 from Dell (just built/delivered)

    Core i7

No touchpad detection, or tab, whatsoever after multiple power cycles (including removal of power charger).

    HELLLLLP!!!

  4. sorry, Ubuntu 11.10, did not download and rebuild latest x-input-dev tho.

    just this deb

I’m at the end of my rope. Win7 is the only other option for me, and I don’t want to have to go there.

pls send any ideas to craig[dot]cooper[at]gmail[dot]com

    many thanx
